Cooking Part II

Since we had a pretty good time the last time we (Nana & I) cooked, we decided to do it again. This time, with a change in the menu and a change in the market we went as well. Pulau Tikus market this time at 7.30am. Things there are definitely of higher price but of better service, of course.

RAW MATERIALS;
Now meet killer no.1 - shallots.
I'm sure everyone knows shallots makes the eyes hurt. I'm guessing its due to some Science reaction or something, right?Nonetheless, killer no.1 defeated. mrgreen
This time, we were using the easy way out for everything. No more mortar and pastel. Instead, we put electronic devices to use, that is the blender. So much easier. It only took less than 1 minute to blend everything.

Today's menu
1. Chicken Curry
The last time we made Green curry, we pounded everything and made our own paste. Making things easier this time, we used Babas curry paste.
2. Ching Pu soup
Again, making things easier we bought the readily packed herbs from the market. Asked the aunty in the market how we were supposed to make it and well, it turned out successful.biggrin
3. Long beans w/ some sauce
Cooked this when Nana was out under the scorching sun to buy me Panadol & Strepsils.
Didn't taste it but it surprisingly turned out to be nice according to Nana.
4. Omelette
This seems like a repeat from the previous menu huh? What to do? Nana here loves this dish too much. This time, in addition, she had baked beans to go with it as well. confused
5. Prawn fritters
One of our dishes during cookout competition in F2. Unfortunately, it didn't pong (Hokkien term, what's it called in English term ah?) this time cause we missed out putting Eno (grandma's secret ingredient).
Cooked the soup by adding chicken's ribcage to the packet of herbs. In the market, we learned that the soup is supposed to be cooked under small fire. Or everything would dry up. We also learned that chicken's ribcage should be placed in boiling water first to remove excess oil.
Everything you need to make ideal prawn fritters is in the bowl, except Eno.
And the process of frying the prawns, that's killer no.2!
The moment you put the prawns in the hot cooking oil in the kuali, there'll be like this reverse reaction where the oil comes shooting back at you/your face.
Anyone knows how to stop this from happening? Cause it's just so annoying and painful!

Earlier, I was having this irritatingly stupid sore throat. Soon after the curry dish, I felt dizzy, hot and cold at the same time. What else can that lead to right? FEVER lahhhh. Went upstairs, changed into my PJs, put on my jacket, wrapped myself in a blanket, went downstairs and rested on the couch for quite some time.
Why is it each time we cook there's something bad that has to happen to me!? Remember the last time, it was my finger. Now, fever. Nothing else please!

While I was resting, Nana was the only one left handling everything in the kitchen. So sorry!
She found 4 yolks in 2 eggs. Must be twins.

Everything was almost ready by 1.35pm. Our invited guest, Ms. Lydia Ong was supposed to come at 1.45pm but she was 15 mins late when her house was just 1min away!
Extracted from Lydia's;
''Let me answer your question; the food tasted kinda good. And yeah, they're edible. I had doubts at first. But nope, nothing is wrong with my stomach YET. HAHA.''

See, see!mrgreen

After the meal, took Panadol and fell flat on the couch once again. That means, only Nana and Lyd (even the guest has to work) did the washing and the clearing up. Paiseh ah. redface
Didn't really sleep/rested peacefully as those two were talking/laughing way too loud!
Went upstairs after everything was cleaned cause they wanted to use the comp while I just continued sleeping on the bed.

Woke up feeling so much better (this means Panadol, besides being harmful, is very effective).
This very random yet common idea came up all of a sudden and well, shall I say the idea turned into reality?

So here I am, sharing with you the products.razz
